Gold medalist Redmond Gerard of the US, centre, celebrates with silver medalist Max Parrot, left, and bronze medalist Mark McMorris following the men's snowboard slopestyle final at the Phoenix Snow Park at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Feb. 11, 2018.

In other results, Canada's mixed-doubles curling team of John Morris and Kaitlyn Lawes finished round-robin play with a 7-3 rout of South Korea. Redmond Gerard won the gold medal with 87.16 points. He fell after a railslide at the top of the course. While snowboarding in the backcountry of B.C., McMorris broke his jaw and left arm in addition to suffering a ruptured spleen, a stable pelvic fracture, rib fractures and a collapsed left lung after crashing into a tree off a jump.

QUEEN JUSTINE - Montreal freestyle skier Justine Dufour-Lapointe finished on the podium for a second straight Games when she took the silver medal in women's moguls.

What followed was an arduous recovery process, including 10 days in the hospital, a liquid diet that lasted six weeks and hours of daily physical therapy.

He said he felt better when he managed the rail section in his second run - "I just said to myself, "well, I didn't biff that one" " - and was in the end really excited to have completed the run he came to do. McMorris showed he could do it by winning a World Cup just eight months after the crash.

The women's slopestyle qualification is set for Monday afternoon.

The final was a highly anticipated event for Canadian fans as four talented Team Canada athletes qualified and had to deliver an exemplary performance for a place on the podium. Interestingly, the United States and Canada earned their first Olympic medal at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang in the same Olympic event. Bloemen finished in 6:11.616. I crossed that finish line knowing that no matter what happened next, this was it.

In figure skating, three-time ice dancing world champions and Olympic gold and silver medallists Virtue and Moir scored 80.51 points for their short dance to the Rolling Stones' "Sympathy For The Devil", "Hotel California" by the Eagles and Santana's "Oye Como Va". He had won bronze at Sochi 2014 and boasted numerous Winter X Games golds.
