Gruden, who gave McVay his first coaching job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, made the announcement during an introductory news conference in Oakland.

This strictly was about Jon Gruden reuniting with the Oakland Raiders, and that's how he wanted it in his return to coaching.

The Raiders interviewed Tee Martin and Bobby Johnson before formally announcing Gruden's hiring. Gruden was reportedly one of the network's highest-paid employees and a big name like Peyton Manning would surely require a big salary, too. A pair of security guards was needed to prevent fans from overwhelming the honored guests at the main door. Fireballs and music fill a 65,000-seat dome.

One of Steve Kerr's most redeeming qualities is his dry sense of humor.

"Obviously Derek got hurt early in the season", Gruden said.

In a sense, the end of Jon Gruden's (first) Oakland Raiders career helped launch the beginning of Tom Brady's.

Neither Gruden nor Davis would go into detail about the coach's contract but he did confirm he will not have an ownership stake in the team. "And how long I stay here will be determined by how well we play", Gruden said. The excitement in today's press conference was felt among all who attended.

"I think he's got a huge upside", Gruden said. Prior to this, Gruden's sons were younger and he wanted to spend time with his family.

"Whispers became rumors", a deep-voiced narrator intoned. "Let's go, go, go, go, go!" he yelled in another. His remarks on the Chiefs come around the 36-minute mark. I only live one time.

"Raider Nation", Davis began.

Davis broke out of his norm and showed some personality, saying this was a "big effin' deal". If it is permitted, it's the clearest possible path for teams to consistent avoiding the Rooney Rule. It took a while for the applause to die down and the cameras to stop flashing.

"I've been thinking of a lot of plays", Gruden said. "I used to get phone calls from Al Davis at 3 a.m". "This is the organization that I want to be a part of, and I'm all in".

There has been a video shared around the internet in recent days of when Carr met Gruden during the coach's television "QB Camp" before the 2014 draft.

Oakland Athletics Manager Bob Melvin was in attendance.

The Raiders also are set to hire David Lippincott from Cincinnati as linebackers coach, per Alex Marvez of

"All of us want to know, Is there a no-trade clause in your contract". While the older guys can't lace up their shoes or put on a uniform their presence is enough to motivate the current roster of players to come.
