A near-ace and big win for Johnson at Kapalua

Johnson creamed the ball down the fairway on the 12th hole of Hawaii's Kapalua Resort - The Plantation Course; hitting the ball an incredible 420 yards (328 metres!) to come just six inches away from the hole. The 23-year-old from Spain moved to No. 3 in the world.

World No. 1 Dustin Johnson sent his rivals a warning by powering to an eight-shot win, the biggest margin of his career, at the PGA Tour's Tournament of Champions and insisting he has a lot of room for improvement.

Johnson knew his drive was well hit, but, as he picked his tee out out the ground, he would have had little idea that he would have been tapping in for eagle a few minutes later.

Dustin Johnson won Sunday at Kapalua, almost ending the fight on the 433-yard 12th hole at the Tournament of Champions on Sunday.

"Not very long, I don't think. I know exactly where I want it to come down out of the air and it did", Johnson said. So, for me, it's just all about pushing forward, and you can't change anything that happened in the past. The latter overcame an ordinary start in Maui to post another top-ten finish on 12 under par.

Johnson, who seized the world No. 1 ranking last February, has now won at least one USA tour title for 11 straight years.

"When I'm out there playing the only thing I'm focused on is the shot that I got to hit next". Jordan Spieth also won by eight shots in 2016.

"I want a lot more wins".

He played the 12th hole in four shots on the weekend.

When he was in this sort of mood a year ago he won three straight events at the Genesis Open, World Golf Championships - Mexico Championship and the World Golf Championships - Dell Match Play. "I got off to the right start, for sure", he said.
