A police officer has died after being shot during a response to a burglary in Frederickson, Wash late last night.

A sheriff's deputy in Washington State died after he was shot while chasing a burglary suspect.

Authorities have identified a sheriff's deputy shot and killed while responding to a home invasion as a Navy veteran and father of three young boys.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Office deputy came under fire while chasing down the suspects after a 911 call warned of an intruder around 11:30 p.m. local time near Spanaway, about 12 miles south of Tacoma, according to a report. Some clothing was found by deputies that they believe he left behind. The Tacoma News-Tribune reported that he was hired in 2014, was married and had three sons.

A manhunt for the second suspect is underway.

The suspect escaped and remained at-large Monday as The Dispatch went to press.

The Sheriff's Department says one suspect was found dead at the scene, but another male suspect is still at large and is considered armed and unsafe.

The deputy arrived on scene and became involved in a foot pursuit with a male suspect, during which shots were fired and the deputy was struck.

Some roads in the area are closed. He was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and a black beanie.

The injured deputy was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

A memorial fund was set up to benefit his wife and children.
