Ronan nabbed the prize for best actress in a musical or comedy earlier in the night.

Ronan and Gerwig both expressed their solidarity with those experiencing inequality, sexual harassment and assault in the workplace by donning all-black looks to the Golden Globes as part of the Time's Up movement.

"Lady Bird", a coming-of-age tale about a teenage girl and her fractured but endearing relationship with her mother, won the Golden Globe award for best comedy/musical film on Sunday.

Gerwig was shut out of the best director category.

London-Irish filmmaker McDonagh also won the Best Screenplay award for his searing study of grief, with two of his stars, Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell, winning Best Actress - Drama and Best Supporting Actor respectively for their performances. Many in the industry believe that Gerwig missed a well-deserved nomination in the director category at the Globes, which was won by Guillermo del Toro for "The Shape of Water". "So, hi! I have no time at all to say thank you but I just want to say how inspirational it is to be in this room tonight".

Accepting the award, Saoirse said: "My mom's on FaceTime over there on someone's phone. Hi!"

"If the movie wins, and even me getting [this award], that's her's", Ronan insisted.

The film, written and directed by Greta Gerwig, beat out "The Disaster Artist", "The Greatest Showman", "Get Out" and "I, Tonya".

HollywoodLifers, what did you think of Saoirse's dress at the Golden Globes?
