The Miami store was originally the flagship store of the home-grown Burdine's department stores.

The company said in a statement Wednesday the closure is part of the 100 planned store closures announced in August 2016.

The company announced that the following stores will close: Novato (Furniture), Novato, CA; The Oaks, Gainesville, FL; Miami (Downtown), Miami, FL; Honey Creek Mall, Terre Haute, IN; Birchwood Mall, Fort Gratiot Township, MI; Fountain Place, Cincinnati, OH and Burlington Town Center, Burlington, VT. "After careful consideration, Macy's has made a decision to close the Fountain Place store in Cincinnati".

Macy's operates more than 700 department stores under the Macy's and Bloomingdale's names, and approximately 160 specialty stores.

Macy's narrowed the range of its previously provided full-year sales guidance.

"While closing a store is always a hard decision because of the impact on our customers, our associates and the community, Macy's is delighted to have served this community over the years", the company said in a statement.

On Thursday morning, Macy's revealed the exact locations of those 11 stores, saying clearance sales are starting as soon as next week and will run for up to 12 weeks. Some employees will be offered jobs at other Greater Cincinnati Macy's locations, and others will be offered severance and outplacement resources.

The store is expected to close by mid-March, the spokesperson said.

In addition to closures, Macy's announced staffing adjustments across the organization, with reductions in some stores and increases in others. Another 19 stores will be closed as leases or operating covenants expires, or as sale transactions are completed.

"Our ability to execute e-commerce fulfillment from 100 percent of our brick-and-mortar stores helped fuel the growth in e-commerce for the holiday season", said JCPenney chairman and CEO Marvin Ellison, listing toys, boots and athletic footwear among the top-performing digital categories.
