The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot tonight are 1 in more than 302.5 million.

"When the jackpots reach these levels, everyone starts to daydream about what they would do if they won", Gordon Medenica, Mega Millions lead director, said in a statement. Powerball has odds of one in 292.2 million.

"You would stop and pause and look", said Thompson.

"But, there's the ticket", said lottery player Harvey Wright.

According to the insurance company Allstate, your chances of winning the Powerball are about 1 in 290 million, and the likelihood of you taking home the Mega Millions are roughly 1 in 258 million.

"We never have had the jackpot but we are hoping it's this time", Green said. $400 million or something.

I still play Mega Millions, but I have cut back on the number of tickets I buy because of the increase in cost.

A ticket for the USA lottery Powerball sits on a counter in a store on Kenmare Street in Manhattan, New York. I would give each of my three children $1 million each and set aside some for my grandchildren's education. "'I won?! No! I didn't!' Of course there would be a jubilation".

"I can take care of my family", added Wright.

"We drove all the way here to win the big jackpot", Hurtado said.

That means more money for programs that benefit Arizona. We don't always hit the jackpot, but we did once in Arkansas.

Why did officials have to go making it tougher to win the Mega Millions jackpot-and up the tickets from $1 to $2 (the same as Powerball). And nearly no one wins either. Friday, January 5th, there are back to back lottery jackpots that are in the hundreds of millions of dollars - and that fever is burning twice as hot.
