She's part of the music-heavy lineup for ABC's "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest". We're told their solution is to put Mariah in a chair and literally roll her from the stage to the ball.

McCarthy added that the hopeful theme of Unity is the exact thing needed after a tumultuous 2017 of negativity, and a chance to maybe see some good from the year highlighted as the live telecast ushers in a fresh start. As it turns out, we weren't alone: host Ryan Seacrest is also admittedly anxious for Carey's return.

Carey, who in 2005 became the first artist to perform live on the show, was ridiculed after she suffered technical difficulties throughout her set during last year's performance. "I don't think you can ever go on the air and say, 'This is gonna go perfectly, cause there's a lot of things out of our control, but I'm sure, that those involved in that performance, incuding the singer, will make preparations".

As the Waterford ball drops in Times Square, millions of people welcome the new beginnings with a celebratory kiss and a wish for an optimistic year to come. She explained to the audience during the show that because of a faulty earpiece, she wasn't able to hear the music.

Ciara will be hosting New Year's Rockin' Eve 2018 festivities over on the West Coast in Los Angeles' Hollywood Party. She's had this happen before, particularly when she performed for her Las Vegas show. Camila Cabello, Nick Jonas and Sugarland will take the NY stage for special performances while Britney Spears will perform from the Axis at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. Performers there include Florida Georgia Line, BTS, Kelly Clarkson, Halsey, Shawn Mendes, and more. As for the central time zone, Lucy Hale will host for the second time in New Orleans where Imagine Dragons and Walk The Moon will take the stage.

The action starts at 8:00 p.m. EST and goes on past New Year's Eve with an end time of 2:13 a.m. Mariah Carey will be returning to perform this year in Times Square along with Nick Jonas, Camila Cabello, and Sugarland.
